You can talk to a therapist and choose whether to have Acupuncture only or with Tuina, depending on your physical complaints.

Acupuncture is a type of holistic approach originated in China about 5,000 years ago, and is most commonly associated with traditional Chinese medicine.

Acupuncturists use multiple points to target the clients’ discomfort as well as to stimulate internal energy and strengthen the body’s defense mechanisms. In order to examine your condition, therapists would check your abdomen and pulse even if you only have shoulder stiffness, and would use acupuncture points not only around the shoulder but also other parts of body.

Japanese-style acupuncture uses thinner (thinner than human hair) and smaller needles and are inserted shallower than those of traditional Chinese counterpart. Therefore, clients generally experience minimal pain or discomfort during treatments. Some do not even notice if needles are inserted at all.

In addition, Japanese-style acupuncturists use moxibustion as part of their practice to gain most benefits out of their treatments. In the harsh Canadian winter, people can get sick easier because immune system functions are compromised. Heat treatments are especially effective to improve body’s immune functions.

Shiatsu is a finger-pressure therapy that prevents and cures ailments.

Shiatsu therapy is a form of manipulation administered by thumbs, fingers and palms without the use of any instrument, mechanical or otherwise to apply pressure to human skin, Shiatsu corrects internal malfunctioning, promotes health and treats specific diseases.

Shiatsu emphasizes correction and maintenance of muscles, meridian lines, tendons, joints and bone structures where malfunctioning distort the body’s energy and autonomic nervous system causing disease.

Pressure is applied on specific acupuncture points as indicated on the meridian chart, and is applied centrifugally at a vertical angle using various pressure levels.

These techniques stimulate the natural healing power stored in the body, and relieve the root of fatigue in order to improve health.
